We are the Sauerweins. For us, winegrowing isn't simply a profession — it's a matter of the heart, a family tradition and a genuine passion. Together, we, the brothers Matthias and Timo, run our estate in sunny Palzem: hand in hand, down to earth, and with one clear goal — to bring honest, characterful and inspiring wines into your glass.
Our parents, Erwin and Edith, laid the foundation for the family estate we run today, and it was from them that we learned our craft — as much by watching as by being taught. From our father we were given a love of experimenting and a deep affection for the work in the vineyard. We believe in traditional handwork — such as the honest fermentation on the skins for our red wines — and focus all our energy on the outstanding Muschelkalk (shell limestone) sites right on our doorstep.
With its Muschelkalk soils, our home at the three-country corner near Palzem — where Germany, Luxembourg and France meet — offers ideal conditions for a wonderful diversity of grape varieties. Whether the age-old, zesty Elbling, elegant Pinots, fruity Riesling or fine sparkling wines from traditional bottle fermentation: you'll find just the right wine for every occasion and every taste.
And because wine is at its best when it's shared, in 2022 we built our new guest house “Zeit bei Sauerweins”. Here you can simply unwind after a relaxed wine tasting, a SAUERWEINS Sundowner on the terrace or a walk through the vines — and stay the night right where you are.
Christian
Christian has been woven into the fabric of our estate for more than 30 years. At wine festivals and trade fairs all across Germany, he's usually the first person you'll meet at our stand. With his phenomenal memory for wine, he not only knows every one of our bottles inside out — he'll usually know exactly what you'll enjoy before you've taken your first sip!
Jennifer
Jennifer keeps everything running smoothly in the office during the week. From Monday to Friday she's your reliable point of contact for enquiries, orders and all the organisational things that happen behind the scenes.
Frederik
Frederik rounds out our team with his open, warm-hearted manner. Whether on the phone to help with your requests or in person at our events – Freddi is always glad to be there for you.

Hellen and Thomas
As certified wine and culture ambassadors, Hellen and Thomas are our experts when it comes to experiencing wine. With great enthusiasm, they'll take you on engaging wine tastings and memorable wine hikes through the beautiful landscape that generations of winegrowing have shaped.
Joyce
Behind the scenes, Joyce keeps the wine shop, the production hall and the guest house running — with a sense of order and a great deal of heart.
Adriana
With just as much heart, Adriana is at work in the wine shop, the production hall and the guest house — and is out in the vineyard too, pitching in alongside Sorin and Ovidiu's team.
Sorin and Ovidiu
Sorin and Ovidiu are our well-practised vineyard team: out among our vines in all weathers, and always set on achieving the very best grape quality.
